Carl Edwards, one of the nicest guys in racing!

People have asked me; "how can you sit and watch racing?"  Some people have told me that watching an auto race is like watching paint dry.

Well, I like to relate racing to a baseball game.  It seems to progress slowly throughout an afternoon until something exciting happens and everyone is on their feet.  There is a science to the set-up of the cars (which is different depending upon the track you are racing on), the incredible safety that is engineered into these cars, and like baseball, there is a strategy to the race.  That strategy includes track position and where you want to be on a specific track at a specific time during the race, when to pit, when to make your move forward, and in many cases fuel economy.  Fuel economy and the ability to gage it can win or loose a race for you.

Why do people become a fan of a specific car or driver?  There are many different reasons people choose to cheer a specific team or driver.  They like the car manufacture (Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota), perhaps they are a fan of the car's sponsor i.e. m&m candy, Miller Lite beer etc.  Or perhaps they simply like the driver, his/her personality and what he or she represents.

One of the nicest guys in racing (or anywhere else for that matter) is the driver of NASCAR's 99 Aflac Ford Fusion; Carl Edwards.  He always has a big boyish grin on his face, never has a bad word to say about another competitor and is very humble in victory.  He is also know for his victory back flips off of his car.

Here is a short video of Carl as he is interviewed on Live! with Regis and Kelly.  It's a good example of his personality, humor and humility.
